Where is GTA 6 set? Leonida, Vice City and the six confirmed regions explained

GTA 6 is set in Leonida, Rockstar's version of Florida, with Vice City at its heart. Six regions are confirmed from official material. Here is what each one is, and how big the map is likely to be.

Grand Theft Auto VI is not set in a city. It is set in a whole state: Leonida, Rockstar's present-day reimagining of Florida, with a rebuilt Vice City at its centre and wetlands, coastline, small towns and highland forest around it. The name is familiar from the 1986-set 2002 game, but this Leonida belongs to the modern HD Universe, the same continuity as GTA IV and GTA V, so the old map, timeline and characters do not carry over.

The six confirmed regions

Everything below has been shown directly in Rockstar's two trailers or its official screenshots. The full breakdown, including neighbourhood-level detail and what is still community guesswork, is on the map page.

  • Vice City (Vice-Dale County). The centrepiece: a dense, modern Miami with art-deco beachfront, glass downtown towers, canals, a cruise port and an international airport. Rockstar has named Ocean Beach, Little Cuba and the Tisha-Wocka Flea Market itself.
  • Leonida Keys. A bridge-connected island chain south of the mainland, modelled on the Florida Keys. Story-critical: Jason and Lucia's starting apartment is here in Trailer 2.
  • Grassrivers. Sawgrass marshland after the Everglades, thick with alligators and crossed by airboat, a vehicle class that exists because of this terrain.
  • Port Gellhorn. A faded Gulf Coast beach town of cheap motels and shuttered attractions, which Rockstar describes as running on cheap liquor and truck-stop energy drinks. The story begins here.
  • Ambrosia. An industrial interior town built around the Allied Crystal sugar refinery, with a biker gang reportedly running most of what the refinery does not.
  • Mount Kalaga. Forested highlands and a national park at the northern edge: dirt trails, hunting camps and off-grid living. The closest GTA 6 gets to Red Dead country.

How big is it?

Rockstar has not published a size, and any exact number you see is a fan estimate. The consistent community reading, built from frame-by-frame analysis of both trailers, is somewhere between 1.5 and 2 times GTA V's Los Santos and Blaine County. Treat that as a range, not a fact; Rockstar's own framing is that it is the biggest and most immersive world the studio has built for a mainline GTA.

Inside Vice City

Vice City is the most scrutinised part of the map. A few names come straight from Rockstar: Ocean Beach, the postcard art-deco strip; Little Cuba, the Little Havana stand-in; and the Tisha-Wocka Flea Market. The rest, from the South Beach nightlife strip to a Brickell-style downtown, a Haitian-themed district and a marina, are community labels that may not match the final in-game names. The map page marks each one as confirmed, community or speculation so you can tell them apart.
