GTA 6 Extended Look breakdown: everything the 26-minute showcase showed
Premiered on Netflix on August 27, 2026, the Extended Look is the first real gameplay of GTA 6: six-star wanted levels, a Criminal Profile that never resets, fuel gauges, tiered car theft, instant character switching and an in-game social feed. The full list.

On August 27, 2026, Rockstar did something it had never done: it put 26 minutes of Grand Theft Auto VI gameplay on Netflix, at 3 PM Eastern, and posted it to its own channels six hours later. Netflix pitched the idea. The showcase, titled An Extended Look, is a montage of clips and a few complete mission scenes captured on a base PlayStation 5, and it is the source for almost everything concrete now known about how the game plays. It is on the Trailers page with a no-sign-in route around YouTube's age gate.
The structure
It opens with a drug pickup in a tower block that goes wrong, a betrayed kingpin and the police turning it into a shootout, and ends with a condensed mission guarding a media executive at a party, with Jason and Lucia's text messages floating on screen mid-action. In between, the clips cover driving, shooting, the phone, the police and a long list of things to do.
Police
Six stars are back, up from GTA V's five, with icons under the stars showing what the police have on you. Police are not marked on the minimap; a Focus mode is how you spot them. Previews the same day described wanted levels that only start when a witness, a victim or a camera reports the crime, hollow stars when police know a crime happened but not who did it, and disguises, haircuts and clothes stashed in cars as ways to shed a description. Our wanted level guide covers it in detail.
Criminal Profile
New to the series: a rating, in the spirit of Red Dead Redemption 2's honor, that tracks how you commit crimes, clean or needlessly violent, and unlike the stars does not reset. Petting a dog nudges it one way; a devil icon flashed during a particularly brutal act in the showcase.
Driving and car theft
Cars have fuel gauges. Shooting out a cruiser's tyres flips it. Crashes damage the world, and Lucia is shown torching a getaway car to destroy evidence. Car theft is tiered: older cars can be taken directly, newer ones need a key cloner or tools that unlock with story progress, which Rockstar North's Rob Nelson described to IGN as stratification. Carjacking has a struggle element. Nelson also said streets are narrower and more realistic, so reckless driving is harder than in GTA V. Our driving explainer has more.
Shooting and switching
Cover-based third-person free aim with a weapon wheel, a game-triggered slow-motion kill cam that highlights weak points, shop owners who shoot back, a timed gun-range challenge, and melee from a stiletto-heel escape to a backyard wrestling ring. Switching between Jason and Lucia is instant when they are together, driver to passenger mid-chase, and takes a few seconds when apart; some jobs are for one of them only. Nelson told IGN they stay partners in crime whether or not the romance develops, and that nurturing it changes how the story plays out without ever splitting them up.
The phone and the world
An in-game social platform where NPC posts go viral, NPCs who livestream and can catch you on their streams, and a returning Snapmatic that the fugitives themselves cannot post to. Side activities shown: basketball, pool, mini-golf, scuba, fishing, jet skis, kayaks, airboats, dirt bikes, base jumping, track and street racing, car meets, clubbing, a zoo, a gym with San Andreas-style body changes, and petting dogs. Rockstar also said the map is roughly three times the size of Red Dead Redemption 2's, that single-player has no microtransactions, that no generative AI was used, and that the satire avoids real political figures and events.

Rockstar has shown a gator in a gas station, a gator on an airboat deck, a gator watching a police chase, and a big cat at a watering hole.
