The GTA 6 spoiler survival guide: how to get to November 19 without seeing the ending

Review copies are reportedly days away, pre-load opens November 12, and the people who finish GTA 6 first will not be quiet about it. Here is how to mute the right words on every app, which corners of the internet to leave until you are done, how to read a review without reading the plot, and what to do about the friend who plays faster than you.

A month out, the hardest part of waiting for GTA 6 is about to change. Until now the risk was fake leaks. From here on, the risk is real ones. Review copies are reportedly going out before the end of October, pre-load opens November 12, and the moment the first person finishes the story, somebody will put the ending in a thumbnail.

We are not going to post spoilers on this site. We never have, we do not link leaked footage, and that does not change on launch day. But we cannot do anything about the rest of the internet, so this is the guide for that. It is a service piece, it is practical, and it will be updated as the dates firm up.

When the danger starts

There are three moments to plan around, and we have covered the timing in detail.

The last week of October, if the reports hold, is when critics and some content creators get the game. Rockstar's embargoes are usually strict, and the serious outlets do not spoil, but a copy of a game is a copy of a game, and screenshots have a way of escaping.

November 12 is pre-load. The files are encrypted until launch, but dataminers have pulled file names, mission lists and audio out of pre-loads of other big games within hours. Expect "GTA 6 datamine" to be a headline that week.

November 19 onward is the flood. People who take the week off will finish the story inside a few days. By the weekend after launch, the ending will be in meme form, and memes do not come with spoiler warnings.

Mute these words

Every major platform now lets you hide posts by keyword. Set it up once, now, before you need it. The list, which you can copy straight in:

GTA 6, GTA VI, GTAVI, GTA6, Grand Theft Auto, Rockstar, Jason, Lucia, Leonida, Vice City, Jason Duval, Lucia Caminos, ending, finale, spoiler, spoilers, leak, leaked, datamine, Boobie Ike, Dre'Quan, Raul, Brian Heder, Cal Hampton, Real Dimez.

Yes, muting "GTA 6" means you will miss some of the good stuff too. That is the trade. You can always come here for the news, and we will keep it spoiler-free.

Where the setting lives:

  • X (Twitter): Settings and privacy, then Privacy and safety, then Mute and block, then Muted words. Set each one to "From anyone" and "Forever".
  • TikTok: Settings and privacy, then Content preferences, then Filter video keywords. It works on captions and hashtags, not on what people say out loud, so pair it with scrolling past anything with the game in the thumbnail.
  • Instagram and Threads: Settings, then Hidden Words. This hides comments and messages, not the main feed, so for Instagram the real fix is leaving the GTA accounts and meme pages you follow until you are done.
  • Reddit: The app has no keyword filter. Mute the communities instead: the subreddits for GTA 6, GTA, Rockstar and gaming in general, plus any meme subreddit over a million members. On desktop, Reddit Enhancement Suite has a filter that hides posts by keyword and works well.
  • YouTube: No keyword filter either. Use "Don't recommend channel" aggressively on anyone who posts the game, and turn off autoplay. A browser extension that blocks videos by title keyword is the strongest option on desktop.
  • Discord: No muting by word. Mute the gaming channels in every server you are in, and ask the admins to make a spoiler channel with a clear name. Most will already be planning one.
  • Facebook: Snooze the gaming pages and groups for 30 days. The option is in the menu on any of their posts.

How to read a review without reading the plot

You will want to know the score. Everyone does. Here is how to get it and nothing else.

Read the headline and the verdict box, and stop. Do not read the body. Do not watch the video review, because video reviews show footage from across the game and a single frame can tell you who is alive at the end. Do not read the comments under any review, ever. And ignore anything with "ending", "explained", "every mission", "all characters" or "story recap" in the title, which are the five titles that will do the most damage in the week after launch.

Our own review coverage will follow the same rule. The scores and the verdicts, with no story beats, in one place, the morning the embargo lifts.

What to do about your friends

The friend who takes launch week off and finishes by Sunday is the single biggest spoiler risk you have, because the mute list cannot stop a group chat. Three things work.

Say it now. One message in the chat, this week: no story talk until everyone says they are done. People respect it when it is asked for in advance and resent it when it is asked for after the fact.

Leave the chat if you have to. Muting is not enough, because you will open it. Leave, and come back when you are through.

Get a spoiler buddy. Someone who is playing at your pace and is the only person you talk to about the game until you both finish. It sounds silly and it works.

What is not a spoiler

Some of what is coming is fine to read, and we will keep posting it: the unlock times, the install size, the day-one patch notes, settings and performance on each console, what the Ultimate Edition items look like in the game, how the radio stations are laid out, and the controls. None of that tells you how the story goes. Our launch guide and the wiki will stay on the right side of that line.

The short version

Set your mute words tonight. Leave the GTA subreddits and the meme pages by the end of October. From November 12, add "datamine" to the list. On review day, read the headline and the score, and close the tab. Tell your friends the rule now, not later.

Thirty-one days. You have waited thirteen years for this story. Do not let a thumbnail tell it to you first.

Quick answers

When do GTA 6 spoilers start?

Realistically, the last week of October. Insider Gaming and NateTheHate report review copies going out before the end of the month, and leaks tend to follow within days. The October 8 development-build leak has already put old footage online.

Will reviews spoil the story?

Most major outlets avoid plot details, and Rockstar embargoes usually restrict what can be shown. Headlines and scores are safe. Mission-by-mission writeups, "ending explained" articles and video reviews are the risk.

What words should I mute?

GTA 6, GTA VI, Grand Theft Auto, Jason, Lucia, Leonida, Vice City, Rockstar, ending, finale, spoiler, leak, leaked, and the names of the supporting cast: Boobie Ike, Dre'Quan, Raul, Brian Heder, Cal Hampton, Real Dimez.

Does the pre-load contain spoilers?

The files are encrypted until launch. Dataminers have historically pulled file names and audio from pre-loads of other games within hours, so from November 12 treat "datamine" as a mute word too.
