Leonida

Rockstar's Florida, with Vice City at its heart

Leonida is the setting of Grand Theft Auto VI: Rockstar's present-day reimagining of Florida, with a rebuilt Vice City at its centre and wetlands, coastline, small towns and highland forest around it. It belongs to the modern HD Universe, the same continuity as GTA IV and GTA V, so the 2002 game's layout, timeline and characters do not carry over. Confirmed

The six confirmed regions

All six have been shown directly in Rockstar's trailers or official screenshots.

How the state fits together

Vice City sits in Vice-Dale County at the centre of Leonida. South of it are the bridge-linked Leonida Keys, where the story's first apartment is; to the west, the Grassrivers wetlands; up the Gulf coast, the faded beach town of Port Gellhorn, where the story begins; inland, Ambrosia and its sugar refinery; and at the northern edge, the forested hills of Mount Kalaga. Highway signs in Trailer 1 point to Vice Beaches, the Port and Keys, VCI Airport and Kelly County, and the trailer also shows a wealthy waterfront enclave with tennis courts and a yacht. Confirmed

How big is it?

Rockstar has not published a size for the city or the state. At the Extended Look, Rockstar's own comparison was that the map is about three times the size of Red Dead Redemption 2's. Confirmed Community estimates built from frame-by-frame trailer analysis put Leonida at roughly 1.5 to 2 times GTA V's Los Santos and Blaine County. Community Both are rough, and they measure different things. What is certain is the range: a glass downtown, a refinery town and a national park in one state, with the drive between them part of the game.

The name

"Leonida" is familiar from the 1986-set 2002 game, but this is a different place. It is the setting for a whole state's worth of story rather than a single city, the first mainline GTA built that way since San Andreas. See Vice City (2002) vs GTA 6.
