Wildlife

GTA V shipped with about 28 animals. According to Game Informer's cover story, Leonida has more than 170, across land, air and sea, several of them species that have never appeared in a Rockstar game. Reported

Shown in official media

• American alligator: on an airboat deck in Grassrivers, beside an airboat chase, in a convenience store and a backyard pool in Trailer 1, and on the cover art.
• White-tailed deer: at a watering hole in Mount Kalaga National Park and splashing through Grassrivers shallows.
• A big cat: past those deer; it resembles a Florida panther, the only big cat that belongs in the state. Rockstar has not named it.
• Green iguana: on rocks in the Leonida Keys and crossing a street in front of a mobility scooter.
• Dolphins and a sea turtle: around boats and divers off the Keys.
• Birds: pelicans, gulls, roseate spoonbills, cranes and wood storks.
• Dogs.

Named but not pictured

Manatees and flamingos are Rockstar's own examples of Leonida natives. Cane toads, feral cats and rhesus macaque monkeys are named as invasive species; Florida really does have wild monkeys.

Where to look

Four regions do most of the work: the forests of Mount Kalaga National Park, the swamps of Grassrivers, the reefs and islands of the Leonida Keys and the water around Vice City. Alligators and iguanas also wander into town.

Tiers

Game Informer reports a new fur system for coats and pelts, and animals sorted into ordinary, rare, discoverable and legendary tiers, some trackable. See Hunting and fishing. Reported
