GTA 6 release date history: from "coming 2025" to May 26 to November 19, 2026
GTA 6 was announced for 2025, moved to May 26, 2026, then to November 19, 2026. The dates, what Rockstar said each time, and what the studio's leaders told Bloomberg this month about why.

December 4, 2023: "coming 2025"
The reveal trailer closed on a single line: coming 2025, to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. No month, no PC. Rockstar's leadership believed a 2025 release was achievable, according to Bloomberg's account this month, though some developers below them were not convinced.
May 2, 2025: May 26, 2026
Rockstar announced the first delay in a short post, apologising for the wait, thanking fans for their patience, and saying the extra time was needed to deliver the game at the level of quality it demanded. Four days later came Trailer 2, the site refresh and the character pages, so the delay landed alongside the best look at the game yet. Bloomberg's account is that Rob Nelson, Rockstar North's co-studio head, concluded as the first date approached that the team needed more time, and that Jennifer Kolbe, Rockstar's head of publishing, made the call to Take-Two's Strauss Zelnick.
November 6, 2025: November 19, 2026
The second delay came six months later, moving the game from May to November 2026, with Rockstar citing the extra months of polish the game needed. Kolbe had to make the call again. Her recollection of Zelnick's first reaction, as reported by Kotaku, was "Please tell me you're kidding"; once the reasons were explained, he agreed, and he now describes the extra time as an investment that lets the game reach what it is capable of.

The feature Rockstar sat for with Bloomberg on October 14 is the fullest account. There was no single crisis. The game began as a far larger Project Americas before being cut down to Leonida, Red Dead Redemption 2 pulled most of the company in for years, the pandemic slowed the fine detail, and the sheer number of characters to write and animate led to a new Los Angeles division just for the people in the world. What is fixed now
Pre-orders opened June 25, 2026, at $79.99 and $99.99. Pre-load opens November 12. The game unlocks region by region on November 19, with the United States at midnight Eastern. Take-Two has said no edition plays early. Rockstar has said nothing to suggest a third delay, and with the Extended Look, the radio reveal and the album all pointing at the date, every public signal is that it holds.
