GTA 6's Criminal Profile: the rating that tracks how you commit crimes and never resets

Alongside the wanted stars, GTA 6 keeps a Criminal Profile, a Red Dead-style rating of how you do your crimes, clean or needlessly brutal. Unlike the stars, it does not reset. What Rockstar showed and what is still unknown.

Wanted stars measure how much the police want you right now. Grand Theft Auto VI adds a second measure that the police cannot see and that you cannot shake off by changing cars: the Criminal Profile, shown for the first time in the Extended Look.

What it is

The closest comparison is Red Dead Redemption 2's honor meter. The profile tracks the way you commit crimes rather than whether you commit them: a clean job and a needlessly brutal one are both crimes, but they move the rating in different directions. In the showcase, petting a dog registered as a positive, and a devil icon with a minus sign flashed during a particularly violent act. The key difference from the stars is that it persists. Lose the police and the stars fade; the profile stays where you left it.

What it affects

Here Rockstar has been quiet. The showcase showed the rating moving and nothing else, so anything you read about the profile changing endings, prices, how NPCs react or which jobs are offered is speculation unless Rockstar confirms it. The honor comparison invites guesses, because Red Dead's system touched shop prices, dialogue and the ending, but GTA 6 may use it very differently.

Why it is there

The showcase's framing of crime is more deliberate than GTA V's. Police need a witness or a camera before a star lights. Leads are things you can remove one by one. Evidence can be burned. The profile fits that pattern: it gives the game a memory of your conduct that the police system, by design, does not have. Rockstar has also said the satire avoids real political figures and events and that there are no microtransactions in single-player, which puts the profile firmly in the category of a story and world system rather than anything to buy your way out of.

Jason, Lucia and one profile or two

Unconfirmed. Rockstar has not said whether each lead keeps a separate profile, or whether a shared rating follows the pair. Given how much of the game is built around switching between them, it is one of the first things previews after launch will settle.

The wanted system, level by level

Quick answers

What is the Criminal Profile in GTA 6?

A persistent rating of how you commit crimes, in the spirit of Red Dead Redemption 2's honor system. Needlessly violent acts push it one way, small decencies like petting a dog push it the other, and it does not reset like a wanted level.

Does the Criminal Profile change the story?

Rockstar has not said. It has only shown the rating moving; what it affects in missions, prices or endings is unconfirmed.
