Digital pre-orders of GTA 6 can download from November 12, 2026, seven days before the game unlocks. Pre-load is not early access: the files stay locked until your region's unlock time, and Take-Two has said no edition plays early. Confirmed
Install size
Rockstar has not published an install size. The PlayStation Store shows none and the Xbox listing shows a 328 MB placeholder. Working estimates from outlets run 120 to 200 GB, which would make it larger than Red Dead Redemption 2's 105 GB. The 676 GB and 750 GB screenshots that circulated were debunked. Reported
How much space you really have
About 667 GB usable on a launch PS5, 802 GB on an Xbox Series X and 364 GB on a 512 GB Series S. Clear 200 to 250 GB before November 12 to cover the game and a day-one patch.
How long it takes (200 GB)
| Connection | Time |
|---|---|
| 25 Mbps | 18 to 22 hours |
| 50 Mbps | 9 to 11 hours |
| 100 Mbps | 4.5 to 5.5 hours |
| 200 Mbps | 2 to 3 hours |
| 500 Mbps | about 1 hour |
| 1 Gbps | under 30 minutes |
Tips
On PS5, turn on automatic downloads and "Stay connected to the internet" so the pre-load runs in rest mode. On Xbox, use Sleep rather than full shutdown. If you ordered the box, check the delivery date: it ships from November 12 with a code and cannot start downloading until it arrives.
