Why, in Rockstar's words
Rockstar's May 2025 post apologised for the wait and said the extra time was needed to deliver the game at the level of quality it demanded. Bloomberg's October 14, 2026 account: Rob Nelson concluded as the first date approached that the team needed more time, and Jennifer Kolbe made the call to Take-Two's Strauss Zelnick, twice. Her recollection of Zelnick's first reaction, as reported by Kotaku, was "Please tell me you're kidding." Phil Hooker says the second call came when it became clear some areas would not make it. Could it slip again?
Rockstar has given no indication of a third delay, pre-orders and pre-load dates are set, and Take-Two has said no edition plays early. Nothing is certain until the 19th, but every public signal points to the date holding. Speculation
