Why GTA 6 is PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only: no PS4, no Xbox One, and no PC at launch

GTA 6 launches on exactly two platforms. Here is what Rockstar has confirmed, what the last generation's absence means in practice, and the pattern behind the missing PC version.

Grand Theft Auto VI launches on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, and only those. Rockstar's page and the storefronts list two platforms, the reveal trailer named the same two in December 2023, and nothing has been added since. That has three practical consequences.

No last generation

GTA V launched on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 and was then carried through two more generations. GTA 6 starts on the current one and does not look back: no PS4, no Xbox One, and no suggestion from Rockstar that either is planned. The Extended Look was captured on a base PS5, Trailer 2 on a standard PS5, and Rockstar's descriptions of the world, roughly three times the size of Red Dead Redemption 2's, with a police system that reasons about witnesses and leads, are the kind of thing that explains why. If your console is a PS4 or an Xbox One, the game needs a new one.

Series S is in

Xbox Series X|S means both machines, so the Series S plays it. What Rockstar has not said is how the two compare in resolution or frame rate; no performance targets have been published for any platform. The one difference you can plan for is storage: a 512 GB Series S has about 364 GB usable, and with the install size estimated at 120 to 200 GB plus a day-one patch, the game takes most of the drive. The download-size story has the figures for all three consoles.

No PC, for now

There is no PC version, no system requirements, no store page, and no announcement. Rockstar has brought every modern GTA and Red Dead to PC, never on day one: GTA V took about nineteen months, Red Dead Redemption 2 about thirteen. If that pattern holds, a PC version is a 2027 or 2028 conversation. Anything sold today as a PC pre-order is not the real thing. Will GTA 6 be on PC? goes through it.

Pricing is the same on both

$79.99 Standard, $99.99 Ultimate, on both platforms, with pre-load from November 12 and the same regional unlock times. The physical Standard Edition is a download code in a box rather than a disc, on both. See the price story and the launch guide.

Quick answers

Is GTA 6 on PS4?

No. There is no PlayStation 4 or Xbox One version, and none has been hinted at.

Is GTA 6 on Xbox Series S?

Yes. Rockstar lists Xbox Series X|S, which includes the Series S. The main practical difference is storage: a 512 GB Series S has about 364 GB usable.

Will GTA 6 come to PC later?

Nothing is announced. GTA V reached PC about nineteen months after consoles and Red Dead Redemption 2 about thirteen; that pattern is the only guide.
