Jason and Lucia

Grand Theft Auto VI is built around a pair: Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, who for the first time in the series are a couple. Rockstar's premise is that an easy score goes wrong, a conspiracy opens up across Leonida, and the two have to rely on each other to get through it. Confirmed

Switching

The Extended Look showed the mechanics. When the two are together, switching is instant: from driver to passenger in the middle of a chase. When they are apart, the swap takes a few seconds and the camera travels to wherever the other one is; one cut goes from Lucia base-jumping to Jason on the couch. Some jobs are for one character only. See Character switching.

The relationship

Rob Nelson of Rockstar North told IGN that whether or not the romance develops, Jason and Lucia stay partners in crime. Nurturing the relationship changes how the story plays out, but it never splits them into separate stories. Text messages between the two float on screen during the showcase's final mission, a hint at how the writing will carry it. Confirmed

Two people, one lead

The pair is also a gameplay system. The police track four things about you, and one of them is whether you have a partner. When they know they are chasing two people, splitting up removes a lead they can match you on. See Police leads and Wanted level.

Who they run with

Brian Heder and Cal Hampton are Jason's circle in the Keys. Raul Bautista recruits risk-takers for bank scores, and the trailers suggest Jason and Lucia end up on his crew. In Vice City, Boobie Ike, Dre'Quan Priest and Real Dimez make up the Only Raw Records circle.
