Jason Duval is one of the two playable leads of Grand Theft Auto VI, alongside Lucia Caminos. Rockstar describes him as a man who grew up around crooks, did a stint in the Army and came out of it wanting an easy life, and who now works for drug runners in the Leonida Keys. Confirmed
Background
Rockstar's official line is that Jason grew up around crooks, joined the Army, and left wanting nothing more complicated than an easy life. It did not turn out that way. The launch trailer of October 15, 2026 adds that his military service ended badly and that the way he left is part of why ordinary life in the Keys is a struggle for him. Confirmed
He works for drug runners in the Leonida Keys, chiefly Brian Heder, a veteran smuggler who moves product through a boatyard and lets Jason live rent-free in one of his properties in return for the work Brian is too old to do himself.
Role in the story
Rockstar's premise is that Jason and Lucia have always felt the odds were stacked against them. An easy score goes wrong, they are pulled into a conspiracy that stretches across Leonida, and they have to depend on each other to get through it. See Jason and Lucia for how the pair works in play.
Trailer 2 introduces him shirtless, fixing leaks on a boat. The final shot of Trailer 1, two people walking into a store with guns drawn, was later revealed to be Jason and Lucia.
People around him
- Brian Heder, his employer and landlord in the Keys.
- Cal Hampton, his closest friend, who monitors police chatter from his couch.
- Raul Bautista, the bank robber whose crew Jason and Lucia appear to join.
Look and gear
The screenshots show Jason in tank tops, cargo shorts, a chain and a leather jacket, with tattoos on show, including a full back piece in the Electric Fang Tattoo shots. The pre-order Vintage Vice City Pack gives him a pastel suit and period hairstyles, and Sara's Unisex Salon is described as offering facial hair for Jason. His Ultimate Edition extras include a Ganado retro build for his pickup and engraved weapons (Weapons). Because the police track clothes as one of four leads, a spare outfit is a gameplay tool, not just a costume (Police leads).
