Trailer 1

The reveal: Lucia, Leonida and a record-breaking feed

Grand Theft Auto VI was revealed on December 4, 2023, a day earlier than Rockstar had planned: a low-quality copy leaked the evening before, so Rockstar published the real thing. Ninety seconds long and set to Tom Petty's "Love Is a Long Road," it confirmed the setting, introduced the series' first female lead and promised a 2025 release on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Confirmed

Lucia

It opens on a woman in prison scrubs being questioned, who puts her situation down to bad luck: Lucia Caminos. The final shot, two people walking into a store with guns drawn, was later revealed as her and Jason Duval, framing the game as a two-hander.

Leonida, not just Vice City

Rockstar's post set the game in Leonida. The trailer shows pastel beaches and a glass downtown, but also sawgrass wetlands crossed by airboat (Grassrivers), a mud-truck festival, highway signs pointing to Vice Beaches, the Port and Keys, VCI Airport and Kelly County, a wealthy waterfront enclave, a motel and a rooftop party.

The feed

Much of it is cut like a scroll through a social feed: parody accounts, Weazel News clips, an alligator in a convenience store and another in a backyard pool, a woman dancing on a moving car, police bodycam footage and a street takeover. It told everyone the tone before a line of plot had been shown (Phone and social feed).

The numbers

Rockstar's upload passed 46 million views in twelve hours and about 93 million in 24, the biggest first day for a game reveal. It drew 8.9 million likes in a day and overtook GTA V's 2011 reveal's lifetime views within two days. Tom Petty's song reportedly reached number two on the worldwide iTunes chart. Reported
